A client from the Oil & Gas Exploration industry located in Texas recently contacted Jerpbak-Bayless requesting for us to manufacture a unique series of very long ACME lead screws. Because material of a suitable length was not available in the United States to construct these long screws, we had to work with our client to find an alternative solution to manufacture products that matched requested shaft dimensions. Our company was able to use a combination of our advanced machining processes to manufacture a series of ACME lead screws that met with client expectations.
Working with the customer, we designed a machined and welded joint that would help us secure two pieces of steel into one. Then we used our advanced turning and milling machinery to cut the final shape of each product. Each screw measured 3.75 inches in diameter, 39 feet in length and weighed 1400 pounds. And, each part contained a range of 32-125 Rms surface finish.
Affording the client with a suitable solution to their problem, Jerpbak-Bayless was able to use a combination of our advanced manufacturing processes, including turning, milling, threading, and welding, to produce and deliver fully assembled extra long ACME lead screws within seven weeks of request.
